Choose Your Hard: A New Way to Make Career Decisions

Hey there 👋

It’s been such a joy connecting through these newsletters. Your wins, reflections, and how you put these tools into action truly light me up.

Lately, there’s one phrase I’ve been saying constantly—to clients, to my husband, and even to fellow dog moms:

“It’s all hard. You get to choose your hard.”

We often treat career decisions like they’re life-or-death—one wrong move and it’s all over (hello, anxiety spiral). But most decisions aren’t about right vs. wrong. They’re about what kind of hard we’re willing to face.

A Quick Story

Back in 2018, I had to choose between staying at Google or quitting to go full-time in my coaching biz—right as I was moving to Australia.

Staying meant job security but also staying stuck.
Quitting meant uncertainty, risk… but alignment.

Everyone said, “Stay.”
My body said, “Go.”

I chose the unknown. It was scary and hard—but also freeing and right.

The Big Question

Are you choosing the hard of staying where you are, even if it’s draining?
Or the hard of moving forward into something unknown?

One might offer comfort. The other might offer freedom.

Neither path is pain-free—but one leads to growth.

So, What Will You Choose?

If you want a meaningful life, you have to make meaningful choices.
If you want change, you’ll face discomfort—either now or later.

Just make sure you’re choosing the kind of hard that supports the you you’re becoming.

Now I’ll ask you:

What hard are you choosing these days?
And what does it say about who you’re becoming?

Cheering you on, always.
