Reclaiming Creativity in Your Career: A Fresh Perspective

Are You Missing Creativity in Your Work?

Have you ever felt stuck in the routine of your career, wondering if there’s a deeper sense of fulfillment waiting for you? Many professionals—especially those in corporate environments—long for more creativity in their work but struggle to find space for it.

I get it. I once felt the same way while working at Google, buried in an endless to-do list and short-term execution, questioning if pixels on a screen could ever bring me purpose. (Spoiler: they couldn’t, lol.)

Right now, I’m in a deeply creative season of my life—quite literally creating a baby (due in February!) and a book (due in January!). This dual “third trimester” has drawn me inward, forcing me to simplify my life, cancel plans, and fully dedicate myself to my creative work. It’s been both isolating and deeply fulfilling.

Why We Shut Ourselves Off From Creativity

In my coaching work, I’ve seen a common theme: many professionals feel disconnected from their creative instincts. They tell themselves:
✅ “I’m more analytical, not creative.”
✅ “Creativity isn’t practical in my job.”
✅ “I don’t have time for creativity.”

Sound familiar? The truth is, most of us aren’t trained to trust our inspiration, intuition, or right-brained thinking at work. Instead, we default to logic, strategy, and efficiency—leaving us wondering, Is this all there is?

But creativity isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity. It’s what makes us human.

Creativity as the Missing Link to Career Satisfaction

Creativity isn’t just about painting or writing. It’s about problem-solving, vision-building, and innovating—all crucial in any career. Choosing what you mix your labor with every day for 8-10 hours is an incredibly creative act—if you let it be.

So how do you tap back into that creativity?

Small Ways to Reignite Your Creative Mind at Work

🌿 Journal about your day – No filter, just thoughts.
🎨 Take a pottery class – Embrace the discomfort of creating something imperfect.
📖 Read The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron – A classic on unblocking creativity.
💡 Own a long-term project at work – Something that excites you and aligns with your strengths.
🧘‍♀️ Take a mental health day – No external input, just space to create your own ideas.

We Need More Humanity in Our Work

Creativity isn’t always convenient in a capitalist system, but it’s one of the most fundamental human desires. We came here to build, collaborate, innovate, and create—and we need more of that in our work now more than ever.
