The Career Question That’s Keeping You Stuck (and What to Do Instead)

Hi there,

There comes a point in everyone’s career where they ask themselves the age-old question:

“Should I stay or should I go?”

Sound familiar? You’re not alone. In fact, the average person stays in a job they’ve already outgrown for three years before switching jobs. That’s three years of missed opportunity. Three years behind your next promotion. Three years wasted languishing in a role you dislike when you could be growing and learning in a role you love.

So, what should you do instead? Here’s a proven 4-step framework that can help you switch jobs without suffering in stagnation.

1. Start With You
Before you jump to what’s next, get clear on your value proposition.
→ What are the strengths you actually enjoy using?
→ What do you want to be known for?
→ What do you value at this stage of your life and career?

2. Identify Your Career Phase
There are 3 phases:

  • Acceleration (you’re focused on growth and momentum)

  • Build (you’re laying a new foundation or direction)

  • Coast (you’re prioritizing stability, balance, or life outside of work)

You can only be in one phase at a time—and each one informs what you should be optimizing for. Most people try to solve for all three (growth, flexibility, balance), and end up stuck.

3. Build Your Hypotheses
You don’t need one perfect answer—you need three smart guesses.
→ What are three paths that could be next?
→ How can you explore them without fully committing right away?

4. Execute Intentionally
This is where you test your hypotheses through experiments, research, conversations, and interviews.
Most people skip straight to this step, which is why they end up job-hopping every 1–3 years without ever feeling truly fulfilled.

If you’re ready to approach your pivot strategically—and want support walking through this step by step.

You’ve waited long enough. Let’s get you moving forward.
