Have you ever witnessed someone bravely tell their story with such authenticity and vulnerability that you fell in love with them a little bit?
That tear-jerking, so-inspired, heart-expanding kind of love?
Last March I attended a transformational women’s retreat, and I wasn’t prepared for what was about to happen.
Women of all ages, races, and backgrounds stood up and shared their stories of triumph, loss, and courage.
Hearing about their trauma lessened the burden of my own. Seeing their strength and resilience reminded me of the goodness inside of me.
I was so in love with each of these women. I could see their perfection and beauty not in spite of, but because of their imperfections.
Being in community with these women was life-changing.
When I got home, I was curious about why I felt so much love for these women? Was it neurological? Psychological? Spiritual?
Obviously, Brené Brown had the answer.
“If you put shame in a Petri dish, it needs three things to grow exponentially: secrecy, silence and judgement. If you put the same amount of shame in a Petri dish and douse it with empathy, it can’t survive“
The love I witnessed was the process of dousing empathy upon shame, and seeing it transform into authenticity and power.
What does this have to do with career fulfillment?
The stories we tell about ourselves become the life we live.
Shame and true fulfillment cannot coexist.
Either we own our story, or we spend our whole lives running from it, thinking more achievement, more productivity, more money, more status will fill the void.
This is the sinister power of the Success Wound™.
When we share our shame with others, we can rewrite a truer, more empowering story about what’s possible for us.
In Finally Fulfilled, 11 brave women are currently doing just that. Transforming shame into authenticity and sublime power.
These women are bravely diagnosing their Success Wound™, writing their success origin story, and starting to come home to their True Self.
And their results…are beyond my wildest expectations.
One woman has already started her website for her new business.
Another raised her hourly rate.
And another had a courageous conversation with her boss that she’s been putting off.
Career transformation CANNOT happen alone.
True transformation happens in community.
So here is my suggestion for you .
Write down one fear or insecurity you’re currently experiencing and then share it with someone in your life whom you trust and can hold space for you.
This might seem simple, but doing this can unburden you from your shame so that you can focus on what really matters in your life!
